Tate Modern - Turn it Up

The campaign emphasizes the necessity of proper funding for local and regional museums, aiming to prevent the sale of art collections due to financial pressures on local councils.

A significant aspect of the campaign is its call to eliminate the English Baccalaureate (EBacc), an exam that excludes arts subjects, thereby limiting students' exposure to creative disciplines.

Core Theme of the Campaign -

1. Decline in Arts Education: Over the past 15 years, participation in arts subjects at the GCSE level has fallen by 42%, highlighting a significant decline in arts education.

2. Student Interest vs. Availability: Despite 90% of students expressing a desire to take at least one creative subject at GCSE, many are unable to do so due to funding constraints limiting what state schools can offer.

3. Budget Limitations: Two-thirds of school leaders report lacking the budget or facilities to offer a full range of arts subjects, underscoring systemic funding issues.

4. Advocacy by Prominent Artists: Artists like Bob and Roberta Smith are actively advocating for the campaign, emphasizing the need for a radical overhaul of art teaching and greater government support.

5. Impact of EBacc: The campaign challenges the EBacc's exclusion of arts subjects, arguing that it limits students' creative opportunities and hampers the development of a well-rounded education.

6. Museum Funding: There's a strong emphasis on securing proper funding for local and regional museums to prevent the loss of art collections due to financial pressures.

7. Coalition of Organizations: The campaign brings together over 20 organizations, including Artists Union England (AUE) and Black Lives in Music, demonstrating a unified effort to prioritize arts education.

8. Launch at Tate Modern: The campaign was launched at Tate Modern, symbolizing the gallery's commitment to supporting arts education and cultural initiatives.
